The Best Survival Kits for Any Occasion

The Survivors Club is often asked: What's the best survival kit on the market?

The answer: It really depends on your situation.

Now comes a terrific Popular Mechanics article reviewing a variety of survival kits for different scenarios.

Popular Mechanics makes recommendations in seven categories including do it yourself; pocket first aid; disaster-ready; backpacking; automobile; boating; and animals.

Popular Mechanics also offers a surprising list of 5 essentials that belong in any disaster kit.

These essentials include beer.  Yes, beer, for paying people in the aftermath of disaster.  “Buy a lot of it,” says Trey Click, a magazine publisher who rode out last year’s Hurricane Ike in Galveston, Texas. “It’s one of the only things you can use for money in the aftermath.” Need your neighbor to help you clear trees out of your yard? A case of Bud is a better motivator than a $20 bill when all the stores are boarded up.

Other items include a handheld CB radio; thick and sturdy contractor bags, glow bracelets and a good book.
