Wife of President Obama's Top Adviser Discusses Their Daughter's Epilepsy: On MSNBC's Morning Joe, Susan Axelrod, wife of strategist David Axelrod, discusses their daughter Lauren's struggle with epilepsy.
This past Sunday, Parade magazine reported on Susan's mission - "I Must Save My Child" -- and Lauren's epilepsy. In 1998, movated by her daughter's battle, Susan and other mothers founded CURE -- Citizens United for Research in Epilepsy.
Cancer Survivors Break Bread Together -- Around 50 cancer survivors got together for Valentine's dinner in Maryland over the weekend to trade stories and to celebrate their survivorship sponsored by the American Cancer Society.
Two-Time Breast Cancer Survivor and the Power of Faith -- Ema Lucero of El Paso was first diagnosed in 1996 and then again in 2004. She tells her story of faith to KFOX-TV news (watch the video by clicking here). She is participating in the Race for the Cure in February.
Three-Time Cancer Survivor Shares Her Story -- Laura Kelson of Rancho Sahuarita in Sonora, Arizona describes surviving and thriving three bouts of cancer. She is participating in the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life in April.
Prostate Cancer Survivor and the Power of Friends -- Joe Ferrara of Santa Cruz, California describes his battle with prostate cancer. In an interview with the San Jose Mercury News, he credits his friends with saving his life. Ferrara is participating in Amgen's Breakaway from Cancer initiative.
Pink Ribbon Spa Da -- On Feb. 22, cancer survivors will participate in the 12th annual Head to Toe Pink Ribbon Spa Day. Survivors will receive free manicures, pedicures and massages at the Wilmington, North Carolina spa. Barnard and Lynn Gibson, owners of the spa, came up with the idea. Barnard is a cancer survivor, but refuses to use the term. She tells the Star News of Wilmington: “I don’t consider myself a survivor because I never thought of myself as being in a war. I prefer to think of myself as a work-in-progress.”
