After the “Craigslist Killer” Phillip Markoff committed suicide in a Boston jail yesterday, the family of a Manhattan woman allegedly shot to death by this man will find other “avenues to seek justice,” reports NY1.com.

Published police reports say that Phillip Markoff, a 24-year-old former Boston University medical student, was found with lacerations and a plastic bag over his head. He had been accused of killing Juilissa Brisman in a Boston hotel in April 2009 where they met through a Craigslist "Erotic Services" post.

Criminologist believe that fear of the upcoming trial set for March, in which Markoff had pleaded not guilty to murder, kidnapping, and armed robbery charges, may have led to him taking his own life.

Not surprised by the suicide of the upstate New York native, criminologist James Fox believes that “If Markoff is the sociopath he seems to be, he would not want to be the kind of person who would face the music, face the trial, be embarrassed and humiliated in public during his trial for murder.”

In addition to the murder of Julissa Brisman, Markoff was also accused of the armed robbery of a Las Vegas woman at another Boston hotel.
