Hurricane Earl Threatens New England
Hurricane Warnings Reach Massachusetts

September 2, 2010Hurricane Earl is on trajectory to strike the North Carolina coast early Friday morning and move on up to New England as warnings are being issued by the National Weather Service 11 am ET today.Earl has recently been reclassified as a Category 4 hurricane and has forced thousands of vacationers to evacuate parts of the Outer Banks, The Washington Post reports. The forecast is already causing New Englanders to prepare for the hurricane.After hitting North Carolina, the NWS expects Earl to brush up the coast with tropical storm force winds until it reaches Massachusetts and Rhode Island on Friday night when hurricane force winds are again expected to make landfall.The hurricane will continue onto Maine and Nova Scotia on Saturday morning. It will continue deeper into Northern Canada afterwards.Hurricane Earl had dealt glancing blows to Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands on Tuesday.
