Menopause is a naturally occurring event, defined by a woman's final menstrual period. Menopause is associated with reduced functioning of the ovaries due to aging, resulting in lower levels of estrogen and other hormones, and is usually confirmed when a woman has missed her periods for 12 consecutive months.
Menopause usually occurs after age 45, and 51 is the average age when a woman begins menopause. Once you're diagnosed as having menopause, youll want to learn more about what you can expect from the hormonal changes you'll be experiencing.
