Famous British composer Andrew Lloyd Webber has been diagnosed with early-stage prostate cancer. However, despite undergoing therapy the creator of Cats and 13 other musicals is determined to thrive and continue to make music.

The 61-year-old composer's attitude can be an inspiration to others facing a cancer diagnosis. He is nearing the completion of a sequel to his spectacularly successful Phantom of the Opera called Love Never Dies. Rehearsals are due to begin in January, with the London premiere scheduled for March, and Lloyd Webber is refusing to let the illness change his plans.

In fact, his spokeswoman has confirmed he is expected to be fully back at work before the end of the year to ensure the rehearsal can start on time, according to media reports.

The American Cancer Society estimates 192,280 new cases of prostate cancer will be diagnosed in the U.S. this year. However, experts say physical exercise and a low-cholesterol diet rich in fruits and vegetables can help reduce the risk of developing the disease.

In addition, regular PSA testing is highly recommended for those at an elevated risk, which includes African Americans and those with a family history of prostate cancer.

Survivors and their families may consult the website of the Prostate Cancer Foundation to access valuable information and networking resources as well as donate money for research.
