Maggie Collins Spreads Awareness of Breast Cancer on the Golf Course
September 2, 2010During a one week reprieve from her breast cancer treatment in 2009, Maggie Collins played last year's Golf.com World Amateur in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina."I didn't play well. Couldn't hit it very far," the breast cancer survivor told Golf.com. "Just far enough to get in trouble."She had left her oncologist's office Greensboro, N.C. in the midst of surgery, chemo, steroids, and radiation to play in her seventh World Amateur.Collins, 60, played hat-less and hairless last year, Golf.com reports. She wisely used her time on the course to spread awareness about breast cancer and told the viewers how common it is among women. She gained many fans during the tournament and received over 1,000 get well cards by January 2010.Now, the Greensboro nurse is back for her eighth World Am. This time she has her full head of hair back. Her stroke is also back in swing, and she is driving 170 yards as compared to 120 yards last year. However, demonstrating her wit and positive attitude, says now she can hit it "far enough to get in even more trouble."
