Anastasia Mitchell Survives Cancer for a Fifth Time
This Multiple Cancer Survivor is an Inspiration
May 10, 2010
Anastasia Mitchell was first diagnosed with cancer when she was in her mid-20s. The survivor has since been diagnosed with four different types of cancer over the past 24 years, but she has survived each battle and come out stronger, reports BakersFieldnow.com.
Mitchell has been diagnosed with adrenal, colon and thyroid cancer as well as having two separate instances of brain cancer.
"I'm blessed," Mitchell told the news provider. "I think I'm the happiest now with cancer than I've been my entire life. I know that's hard to believe but that's the truth."
Mitchell underwent surgery during which doctors removed four large cancerous masses from her brain. The surgery went successfully and she is now recovering, having survived cancer for a fifth time.
Though it's difficult to predict cancer, those with a family history of the disease should work hard to live a healthy lifestyle in order to possibly reduce their risk of the disease.
Individuals who have been diagnosed with cancer have many resources available to them.
According to the American Brain Tumor Association (ABTA) brain tumors are the second leading cause of cancer-related death in males up to 39-years-old and the fifth leading cause of death in females ages 20-39.
The National Brain Tumor Society (NBTS) offers information for those currently diagnosed with a brain tumor as well as those who are recovering from one. The NBTS also has an online support group for those currently suffering. Patients and their loved ones can share information and stories, and find ways to thrive despite the illness they're facing.
