The main symptom of insomnia is trouble falling and/or staying asleep. Symptoms include: Sleeping for only short periods, staying awake for much for much of the night, the feeling that you haven't slept, and waking up too early. In addition, lack of sleep itself can create or cause other symptoms. Insomnia can lead to feeling tired during the day, having trouble focusing on tasks, feeling anxious, depressed, or irritable.

Sleep is an important factor in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Insomnia and lack of sleep can affect you mentally and physically. If you experience insomnia and lack of sleep, you may also experience trouble performing at work or school, slowed reaction time while driving and higher risk of accidents, depression and anxiety disorder, trouble losing weight, poor immune system function, and increased risk of long-term diseases, such as high blood pressure, heart disease and diabetes.
