The worst case is that insomnia is incurable or causes major setbacks to one's life. While insomniacs sometimes feel tremendous despair after prolonged periods without sleep, most insomniacs do eventually recover and dying of insomnia is extremely rare. Even if you continue to experience insomnia for months or even years, continue trying everything you can, including less traditional techniques. Continue to speak with your health care professional and be diligent with your treatments. Perhaps experimenting with a variety of treatment combinations will result in the combination that best suits your needs. Maintain your support network and try to avoid activities that are dangerous to do when you're sleep-deprived, such as driving and operating heavy machinery. It is more likely to become injured doing these activities, since lack of sleep can dull your attention.
