When the fad diets have failed to chip away at her 400-pound frame, Stacy Woltmann decided to hit the gym and created a blog to help her stay focused and accountable. However, in just two months she has gained a sizable following and discovered the joy of inspiring others.

The online diary provides a detailed record of workouts with her personal trainer, boot camp participation, running and walking with her husband as well as preparing for a 5K race.

Recently, Woltman spoke to Good Morning America Today about her goal of losing 100 pounds in one year in order to thrive and be able to fit into her favorite clothes.

"I think this is different because I've chosen something, and feel like I can stick with it for the rest of my life," the Florida woman told ABC. The new mother also said she has been surprised by the outpouring of encouragement and inspired by stories from fellow survivors who follow her blog.

The Centers for Disease Control cites statistics from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey which suggest an estimated 32.7 percent of U.S. adults 20 years and older are overweight, 34.3 percent are obese and 5.9 percent are extremely obese.

Many people have been able to achieve satisfying results with physical exercise, diet - which can be determined with the help of a registered dietetician - as well as mental counseling. For others a gastric bypass surgery may be the best option.

Individuals looking for support and guidance may turn to the American Public Health Association or explore the resources of The Obesity Society.
