Danny Boyle To Recreate Aron Ralston's Incredible Survivors Story For '127 Hours'

The trailer for 127 Hours, which is based on the incredible true story of survivor Aron Ralston, was released today. The movie stars James Franco as Ralston, a man who was forced to self-amputated part of his arm after being trapped by a boulder in Utah in 2003.

Directed by Oscar winner Danny Boyle, the trailer [click here to watch] shows Franco's fearless, and reckless, character mountain biking through the red Utah desert, laughing off injuries, and trying to impress two girls he's found along the way.

When he offers to guide the ladies on an adventurous hike, he falls into a crater, and finds himself trapped. According to The LA Times, the majority of the film will deal with the frightening entrapment Ralston finds himself in after this fall — the ensuing loneliness and desperation that over the course 127 hours — which lead him to cut off his own arm, and save his own life.

Araon Ralston is an experienced mountain climber who went hiking in Utah's Bluejohn Canyon on April 26, reports Carnegie Mellon Magazine.

While solo-climbing, an 800 pound boulder shifted and pinned his right arm against the canyon's wall. After five days, he broke his forearm bones and amputated below his elbow with a dull pocket knife. Freed from the rock, he then repelled 60 feet down to safety and walked five miles to find help.
