Paul Wilson Survived a Shotgun Blast to the Face
The True Story of Paul Wilson, Shotgun Blast Survivor
June 4, 2010
Paul Wilson knew the man who pulled the trigger of the shotgun that left him with only minor injuries. He is one of the only survivors of the shooter's rampage, reports Sky News.
Wilson approached the cab of Derrick Bird after being called over. Wilson knew the man, so he went over to say hello and that is when Bird pulled the trigger of a shotgun. Luckily, Wilson dogged the main blast and was left with only minor facial injuries.
"It looks a mess but clearly I'm alright. I've still got some shot in my face but that will soon be removed," he told the news source. "There was no pain at the time, it was like somebody slapped you in the face."
He received nine separate injuries to his right side of his face but is expected to make a full recovery.
According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, there were over 300,000 nonfatal firearm victims in the United States in 2008.
