During my work on The Survivors Club, I discovered many wonderful books and resources. Here’s my always-expanding list of recommendations (in alphabetical order):
Books on Surviving & Thriving:
- Laurence Gonzales, author of Deep Survival and a new book Everyday Survival. Gonzales is a terrific author who sets the highest standard for writing about survival. Check out his website for more information on his books, articles and speeches.
- Dr. Kenneth Kamler, author of Surviving the Extremes. Dr. Kamler is a microsurgeon and world-renowned expedition doctor and vice president of The Explorers Club in New York.
- Dr. John Leach, author of Survival Psychology. Leach is one of the world's foremost authorities on survival. Here's his homepage at Lancaster University in England.
- Dr. Joseph LeDoux, author of The Emotional Brain. LeDoux is one of the world’s foremost neuroscientists. Take a look at his laboratory homepage.
- Amanda Ripley, author of The Unthinkable. A former Time magazine reporter, Ripley is a superb journalist. Take a look at her Website.
- Carolyn Rubenstein, author of Perseverance: True Voices of Cancer Survivors. A graduate student at Harvard, Rubenstein started a nonprofit called Carolyn's Compassionate Children, which awards college scholarships to cancer survivors.
- Dr. Al Siebert, author of The Survivor Personality and The Resiliency Advantage. Dr. Siebert is one of the country’s top experts on resilience and he runs The Resiliency Center. For more information, take a look at his excellent Website.
